About Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service the LRC offers to obtain copies of resources from other (non-USU) libraries when we do not have access to those resources ourselves.

What types of resources should I use ILL for?

Use ILL to request the following types of resources:

  • Journal articles which are not available through the LRC collections
  • Book chapters
  • Entire physical books
  • Journal articles and book chapters that the LRC owns in physical format, but you would like to request that we digitize them

What types of resources should not I use ILL for?

Do not use ILL to request:

  • Entire online books (e-books)
  • Databases, websites, and other web-based tools

Instead, submit a purchase request or email LRC staff.

What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is the software LRC uses to manage ILL requests. When you submit an ILL request, it goes into ILLiad. LRC staff then use ILLiad to process the request.
