Military Families & Veterans Health Information Resources: Mental Health

Mental Health Websites

Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury

(DCoE) in 2009, the campaign is an integral part of the Defense Department’s overall effort to encourage warriors and families to seek appropriate care and support for psychological health concerns.

Available in Spanish and English, this site offers a self-assessment questionnaire to determine whether current symptoms are consistent with a condition or concern that would benefit from further evaluation or treatment. It is intended to provide a diagnosis but to offer guidance as to where one might seek assistance. The self-assessments are voluntary and anonymous.

This site is an educational resource on PTSD and traumatic stress, for veterans and also for mental health care providers, researchers and the general public. The website contains links to fact sheets and videos to answer questions on trauma, PTSD and related issues.

At the website you can find information and resources or choose to chat live with a counselor. Or call 1-800-273-TALK and press #1 to connect to a special Veteran’s Affairs (VA) suicide crisis line staffed by mental health professionals 24 hours/7days a week.

This website is designed to encourage help-seeking behavior among service members, veterans and military families coping with invisible wounds.

The mission of the Office of Mental Health Services is to maintain and improve the health and well-being of veterans through excellence in health care, social services, education, and research. This site has excellent resources including information about available services, suicide prevention, PTSD, and counseling.
