The best place to start to find journal articles on bioethics or medical ethics is PubMed. Remember to use PubMed@USU from the LRC website to link to full-text.
Many Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) have an "ethics" subheading. For example, you may be interested in articles about ethics issues in reproductive medicine. Follow the steps below to select appropriate MeSH terms and apply the "ethics" subheading.
Many Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) allow you to apply the "ethics" subheading. To locate MeSH terms with the "ethics" subheading, start at the MeSH Database (PubMed homepage) under More Resources.
From the screen below, enter your term into the search box and click Search.
From the results page, click on your term (you don't need to check the box).
On the MeSH display page, you will need to do the following:
From the Subheadings area, check in the "ethics" box.
(Note: You may use AND, OR, or NOT the first time you send a term to the search box. It makes no difference).
Click Search PubMed to view results.
PubMed will run the search using the selected MeSH/Subheading combination.
The Bioethics Subset is an easy-to-use search limiter designed to help you focus your search results on bioethical issues. The Bioethics Subset is based on a pre-built search strategy that looks for journals that commonly publish articles on bioethics, Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms used most often to index these articles (both as unique terms and in combination with other terms), and frequently used ethics-related text words.
There are multiple ways to search using the subset. Below are the more direct methods:
Type your term into the search box at the top of the screen, add AND bioethics[sb] and click Search.
The advantage to using the Topic-Specific Queries page is that you will find additional resources beyond PubMed or even the National Library of Medicine.
The following window will display with a listing of all available PubMed subsets -- scroll to the Subjects section and click Bioethics.
From the screen below, enter your term in the search box and click Search PubMed. Your search results will display in PubMed. Note: You can bookmark this page.
