Google Scholar Search Tips: Full Text Links

Enhance your Google Scholar search results with "Check USU Availability" links! 

Once you complete the setup, Google Scholar will display "Check USU Availability" links next to some search results. These links will attempt to find the material in question through the LRC's BrowZine LibKey service in conjunction with the PowerSearch discovery tool.

1. Click on a "Check USU Availability" link to view options for full text.
2. First, LibKey will check to see if it can facilitate faster access for you. If so, you'll be taken to a LibKey page for the article in question.
   • Click Download PDF to go directly to the PDF.
   • Click Article Link to go to the website where the article resides. This may be useful for accessing supplementary materials which are provided separately from the article PDF or for viewing other information about the journal.
   • Click See all content access options for this article to be taken to the Powersearch details page for the article instead.
3. If LibKey is not able to facilitate access for this article, you will be taken to a Powersearch details page for the article in question.
   • Look for any link(s) under Get Online Resource and use them to access the article.
4. If the Powersearch details page does not provide any full text links, then click Sign In in the upper right corner of the Powersearch page to sign in with your USU Single Sign On account.
5. Then, click on the Request Interlibrary Loan link to access an automatically filled ILL request form. Be sure to click Submit Request to complete the ILL request.

To enable "Check USU Availability" links for Google Scholar:

1. Visit https://scholar.google.com/
2. Click on the "hamburger" (≡) button in the upper left corner to reveal a menu. 
3. Click on Settings in the menu to reach the Google Scholar Settings page. 
4. Click in Library Links in the Settings page. 
5. Type "uniformed" in the search box and click on the search button (magnifying glass) to search. 
6. There should be two available results.
   • If you are a USU Main user, check the box for Uniformed Services University (Main) - LibKey - Check USU Availability
   • If you are a USU PDC user, check the box for Uniformed Services University (PDC) - LibKey - Check USU Availability 
7. Click Save.

At the Library Links section of the Settings page, you may have up to five (5) libraries selected. So, you may elect to choose USU and up to four other library links.

NOTE: If you had any other "Uniformed Services University" or "USU" entries selected, please uncheck those boxes and then save. Those are obsolete entries which are no longer operational. In early 2021, USUHS LRC transitioned to a new link resolver. Please only use one of the two entries indicated in Step 6 above.
