Using PubMed to search for journal articles

PubMed is still a recommended resource for locating journal articles, even if you wish to narrow or limit to articles within the field of psychology/psychiatry. Remember to use PubMed@USU from the LRC website to link to full-text. Search tips specific to retrieving psych articles are available in the box below.

Using MeSH to search for psych articles

MeSH

PubMed contains some psychology topics, although psychology is not the focus of the database. For the best results, when searching PubMed, use Medical Subject headings (MeSH). To view a listing of psychology MeSH terms, click here.

Subheadings

Subheadings allow a searcher to focus on only the psychology aspects of a given term (see below). To limit your search to a specific MeSH term and use the "psychology" subheading, change PubMed to MeSH, enter your search term and click Search. Note: You can also access the MeSH database from More Resources on PubMed's homepage.
