What is Research Impact?

"Research impact is the demonstrable contribution that excellent research makes to society and the economy. It embraces all the diverse ways that research-related skills benefit individuals, organisations and nations."

- Research Councils UK (RCUK)

Why is this important?

As a researcher, the ability to measure your research impact can help:

  • support applications for promotion or tenure;
  • expand your research network by identifying other researchers or institutions using your work;
  • provide justification for requests for grants and other funding;
  • build and manage your reputation (brand) as a researcher; and
  • increase citation counts of your published work.
