Academic Writing Center

Objectives of the AWC

The Academic Writing Specialist pilot was proposed with the following objectives:

  • Deliver instructional materials and sessions (individual or group) that develop and improve student scientific/academic writing skills to a level appropriate for graduate and postgraduate studies.
  • Synchronize and provide direction to writing and publishing resources hosted at USU, partner institutions, and offered online.
  • Develop credit-granting writing courses if requested by schools or colleges.
  • Advise faculty and students on publishing options, opportunities, and avoiding copyright infringement/plagiarism.
  • Technical assistance for students writing dissertations, theses, or DNP projects.
  • Help route completed theses, dissertations, and projects to the University Archives.

Milestones

  • 31 January, 2022 - Dr. Steinbach's first day at USU. 
  • 1 February - 24 February, 2022 - Meetings with USU Faculty from GSN, PDC, and SOM to understand writing assignments, learn about existing resources, identify requirements, and discuss future service/support. 
  • 25 February, 2022 - Consultation Appointments available & AWC website launched
